“The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards” (8 p.m., CBS): Just as the new TV season is about to get under way in earnest, we pause to salute the best of last season — or what voters deemed to be the best (Where are “The Shield” and “Battlestar Galactica”?) Topping all comers with 22 nominations is “30 Rock,” seeking a three-peat as best comedy. On the drama front, “Mad Men” (16 nominations) appears to be the favorite. Meanwhile, Neil Patrick Harris suits up as first-time host. Will he shine in the role? Let’s just say we expect it to be ... wait for it ... legendary.
“Curb Your Enthusiasm” (9 p.m., HBO): The seventh season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” is built around a much-anticipated “Seinfeld” reunion. But Jerry and the gang won’t arrive for another couple of weeks. Meanwhile, Larry has his hands full with an ailing Loretta (Vivica A. Fox).
“Bored to Death” (9:30 p.m., HBO): There’s really nothing boring about “Bored to Death,” a funny new comedy starring Jason Schwartzman. He plays a downtrodden writer who moonlights as a private eye after his girlfriend ditches him. Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis co-star.
