New youth director

GIRARD — Karen Spensley of West Middlesex, Pa., was recently appointed as youth education director of Unity Church Centre, Naylor-Lloyd Road. She replaces Sharon McKinney, who recently retired after serving 34 years in the youth department.

Spensley is responsible for all youth activities and leads Children of Unity (5-9). Her current staff consists of: Mary Critchfield, UniTots (under 5), Pat Jones, UniTeens (10-13), Kathi Gleason, Youth of Unity (14-18).

One of Spensley’s youth projects grew out of her Junior Creative Writing Group at the Centre that meets every third Sunday afternoon. The UniTribune is a quarterly newspaper written by the youth, for the youth. Each junior member has a regular column, and each issue has a new youth editor.

Installation for pastor at People’s Chapel Church

YOUNGSTOWN — Installation for Rev. Charles Daniels as pastor of People’s Chapel Church of God, 2145 Hillman Ave., will be at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Guest speaker will be Rev. Dr. Johnny Graham, pastor of York Avenue Church of God.

Rev. Mr. Daniels was born in Warren, the son of the late Junior and Bertha Mae (Daniels) Manson. He is a graduate of Warren Western Reserve High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Kent State University and a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Geneva College in Pennsylvania. He is currently employed at Community Solutions as a clinical counselor.

Mr. Daniels was called to the ministry at York Avenue Church of God in 1989 and was licensed and ordained as a minister on Nov. 3, 1997, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Johnny Graham. During his ministry at York Avenue COG he served on the ministerial staff, trustee board, youth advisor, as a Sunday school teacher and on the Board of Christian Education. He has served a one-year internship at People’s Chapel COG.

Mr. Daniels has been married to his wife, the former Theresa McBride, for 14 years and they have five children.

King’s Kids Club

LIBERTY — King’s Kids Club of Church Hill United Methodist Church, 189 Church Hill-Hubbard Road next to the old Liberty High School, will begin the fall semester from 4:45 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

All community children are invited to enjoy music, Bible study, dinner, games and crafts.

Male chorus musical

YOUNGSTOWN — Greater Friendship Baptist Church, 646 Lakewood Ave., will present a fall male chorus musical at 6 p.m. Sept. 26 at the church.

Featured will be the Phillips Chapel Male Chorus, New Bethel Male Chorus and the Mighty Golden Wonders of Warren.

Health-care discussion

GIRARD — What are the ethical issues relating to health-care reform, both in terms of the content of the proposed reform and the nature of the debate over these issues? Is there a Christian position on health-care reform?

These and other related questions will be the basis for a dinner and discussion Sunday at First Presbyterian Church of Girard, 890 Church Hill Road.

The dinner begins at 5 p.m. and the discussion at 6 p.m.

Talent Hunt and picnic

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. — Crossing Paths, a local TV ministry and Apostolic Christian Church, will have a picnic and television Talent Hunt at 2 p.m. Sunday at Shenango Township Park, 3439 Hubbard-West Middlesex Road.

Meat and beverage will be provided. Participants are asked to bring a covered dish, a dessert and lawn chairs.

Crossing Paths encourages children and adults to bring their talent to perform at this annual event.

Those participating in the talent portion are to let Dave Poling know if you are going to sing or share any other talent.

Sunday school program

YOUNGSTOWN — The Shenango Valley Baptist Association Sunday School Department will have a program at 7 p.m. Friday at Oak Baptist Church, 320 Elk St.

The topic is “What is Spirituality” based on Ephesians 5:8.

The speaker is Minister Shawn Little of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

The program is free and open to the public.

Harvest Time Celebration

YOUNGSTOWN — Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 1210 Himrod Ave., will have a Harvest Time Celebration and Conference with the theme of “A Renewed Mind in 2009; An Extreme Makeover.”

It will be Monday through Wednesday with speaker the Rev. Torin Dailey, pastor of First Baptist Church of Oakland, Jacksonville, Fla.

The lecture series will be at 6 p.m. followed by a worship service at 7 p.m. each evening.

YOUNGSTOWN — Phillips Chapel C.M.E. Church, 718 Albert St., will have Family and Friends during the Sunday morning service.

The guest for the 3:30 p.m. worship service will be the Rev. Larry McCulloh and the congregation of the World Fellowship Interdenominational Church.
