Jones and Kempe lead Ursuline over Bedford, 42-13


BEDFORD — Senior Allen Jones ran 15 times for 101 yards and a touchdown as the Ursuline High football team rebounded from a two-game losing streak to beat Bedford 42-13 on Friday.

Paul Kempe completed 7 of 11 passes for 57 yards and also ran for a TD for Ursuline (2-2), which pulled away from 21-13 game with three straight touchdowns over a six-minute stretch.

Junior Akise Teague ran twice for 60 yards and a TD and also had a 15-yard fumble return for a score.

Aaron Edwards and DeAndre Harris also had TDs for the Irish, while Chris Collins had an interception and Dawalyn Harper blocked an extra point.

Tariq Mohammed scored two TDs for Bedford (0-4).

Warren JFK 35, Jefferson 14

WARREN — Koren Stubbs carried 10 times for 48 yards and two TDs to lead Kennedy, which held a 28-6 lead at halftime.

Mark Fordeley added 50 yards rushing on 13 carries for the Eagles (2-2), while Anthony Angelo completed 9 of 10 passes for 100 yards and a TD and also ran nine times for 37 yards and a score.

Colin Cicon completed 5 of 11 passes for 100 yards and a TD for Jefferson (2-2).

Carrollton 37, West Branch 29

BELOIT — Mark Smith rushed for 205 yards and four touchdowns but West Branch (1-3, 0-1 Northeastern Buckeye Conference) couldn’t slow down Carrollton.

Carrollton (4-0, 1-0) used a lot of weapons — four different players scored touchdowns, although quarterback Johnny Lowdermilk rushed for one and threw for one — and Ben Knotts kicked three field goals.

Grand Valley 42, Mathews 7

ORWELL — Steven Hyman rushed 16 times for 63 yards and Wade Prueitt added 57 yards on 20 carries with a TD to lead Mathews (0-4, 0-1 Northeastern Athletic Conference).

Jacob Susman carried 12 times for 156 yards and two TDs for Grand Valley (3-1, 1-0).

Akron Springfield 34, Southeast 20

AKRON — Damian Pennington returned a fumble for a touchdown midway through the first quarter and returned a kickoff early in the second, but that proved not enough as Southeast (0-4, 0-1 Portage Trail Conference) fell short.

Riverside 32, Mohawk 28

BESSEMER, Pa. — Mohawk quarterback Johnny Beatty gave his team the lead early in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough as Riverside running back Jared Desensi rushed for 251 yards and two touchdowns.
