Hearings on grants scheduled

STAFF REPORT

Struthers and Campbell have set public hearings on this year’s Community Housing Improvement Program grants.

CHIP funds are federal money distributed by the Ohio Department of Development. They are for people with low to moderate incomes.

There are five categories under which the funds may be spent, said Struthers city Auditor Tina Morell.

Residents can make smaller repairs to their homes; take on more extensive renovation projects; get assistance with a down-payment for a home; get emergency assistance to help prevent a foreclosure; or get help with rental properties — a landlord would pay half the cost of a project and the program would pay the other half, Morell said.

Struthers residents can learn more by attending the public meeting there at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 30 in council chambers in the municipal building, 6 Elm St.

Campbell’s meeting is at 6 p.m. Wednesday at council chambers in the municipal building on Tenney Avenue.

Each community has $500,000 in grants available, and will be taking applications.
