Wounded Ohio police dog makes public appearance

ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A wounded Ohio police dog has managed to stand on all four legs and take a few steps during a surprise appearance at a benefit to help pay his medical bills.

Bosco had been paralyzed immediately after he was shot twice on Aug. 22. There were cheers and tears Thursday night as the K-9 walked onto the stage at the event in Zanesville in eastern Ohio.

He was escorted by Zanesville Police Officer Mike Schiele, who was shot with the dog while attempting to serve a warrant.

Schiele has been recovering at home, while Bosco has been in the care of veterinarians at Ohio State University, where he returned after his brief visit to the dinner.

Schiele says Bosco’s spirit is back but the dog’s recovery will be long and expensive.
