Poland, Canfield battle to 1-1 tie; Howland cruises


CANFIELD — Audrey Smith scored for the Cardinals while Taylor Marucci scored for Poland as the teams fought to a 1-1 tie in a girls soccer game on Thursday.

Jackie Podolsky made nine saves for the Cardinals (3-0-4).

Taylor Erdel stopped seven for Poland (5-0-1).

JVs: Canfield, 2-0.

Howland 3, Niles 0

HOWLAND — Sophomore Olivia Nicholas gave Howland a 1-0 first-half lead before senior Jessica Wilson scored twice in the second half for the Tigers (4-1-1, 1-0-1 AAC Red).

Wilson’s first second-half tally deflected off a Niles defender with 9:40 remaining before senior Gina Albani assisted on Wilson’s second point with 3:32 to go.

Wilson and junior Gina Wall also had an assist apiece.

Niles keeper Sarah Scarnecchia had nine stops, while Howland goalie Erika Nites had three saves.

Niles is 4-2 (0-2-0 AAC Red).

Salem 6, Struthers 0

SALEM — Abi Pasco and Lauren Rupp each scord two goals while Peyton Meals and Danielle Perry had one apiece.

Hallie Hawk made two assists while Allison Thompson and Brynn Crowgey combined for five saves.

Newton Falls 1, LaBrae 0

NEWTON FALLS — Brooke Rodgers scored the lone goal in the first half on an assist from Angela Giuliano to lift Newton Falls (4-1-1, 2-0 AAC Blue).

Rebecca Humberger had six saves.

For LaBrae (5-1-1, 0-1-1), Kelsey Daniels had 14 saves.

Newton Falls held a 27-19 edge in shots on goal.

Ashtabula Edgewood 3, Ursuline 1

YOUNGSTOWN — Morgan Stemple, Alyssa DiBenedeto and Molly Lehnert each had an unassisted goal to pace Edgewood at Wick Recreation Örea.

Olivia Murphy had the only goal for Ursuline (3-5-0) on Brittany Curd’s assist.

Edgewood goalie Cayli Calogero had eight saves.

Ursuline goalie Anita Smith had eight saves.

Neshannock 2, Kennedy Catholic 0

NESHANNOCK — Caitlin Binder and Melyssa Patterson each had one unassisted goal for Neshannock.

Neshannock goalie Tiffany Nazarian had six saves.

YOUNGSTOWN — Brittany Curd scored three goals and Olivia Murphy the other for the Irish (3-4-0).

Taylor Brentin had an assist.

For Kennedy Catholic, Jenna Green scored and goalkeeper Chelsea Bernat made seven saves.

Boys Hubbard 2, Warren Harding 0

HUBBARD — Connor Mogg and Tim Kemner each had one goal for Hubbard (2-5) on assists from Cole Crawford and Sterling Morris, respectively.

Hubbard goalie Steve Roose had five saves.

Harding (2-6) goalie George Waywinters had four saves and counterpart Charles Wargo had two.

Austintown Fitch 10, Akron Kenmore 2

AUSTINTOWN — Keanu Shelton scored goals and Anthony Savko two for the Falcons (3-4-1).

Also scoring were Adam Justice, Ken Kilpatrick, Mike Shaffer, Adam Bohr and

Ricky Smith. Savko and Alex Smith had two assists while Bohr, Justice, Shaffer and Brandon Jankowski had one.

Goalkeepers Chris Platton, Justin Beck and Nick Kerpsack combined for seven saves.

For Kenmore, Matt Massaro had a goal and assisted on Mike Massaro’s goal. Beau Anderson also had an assist while

Nick Weatherholt made nine saves.

NILES — Bobby Vickers scored for the Red Dragons.
