Mixed verdict in northwestern, Pa., toddler slaying trial
MEADVILLE, Pa. (AP) — A northwestern Pennsylvania woman accused of killing her live-in boyfriend’s daughter has been acquitted of third-degree murder but convicted of two lesser charges.
Melynda French could get up to 30 years in prison when she is sentenced for involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault.
The 25-year-old Cambridge Springs woman’s sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 7. The Crawford County jury reached its verdict today, the same say as closing arguments.
French maintained that 21-month-old Kierstan Bressette’s fatal injury came from an accidental fall. Her first trial in May ended with a hung jury.
