Mexican society dance is annual celebration

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mexican Society of Youngstown will sponsor an adults-only dance from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday at the OCCHA Hall, 3660 Shirley Road, to commemorate the Independence Day of Mexico.

Singles are encouraged to attend, and there will be a live band, Implacables Del Norte, providing dance music. Mexican food and beverages will be available. The donation is $15 at the door. No carry-ins allowed.

Boardman Band Night

BOARDMAN — The Boardman Spartan Marching Band and Orchestra Parents, Inc., will host Band Night ’09, scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday in Boardman Stadium.

Participating high school bands are Springfield. Lowellville, West Branch, South Range, Cuyahoga Falls, and Boardman. Admission at the gates is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Senior citizens are admitted free to all Boardman Band events. Gates will open at 6 p.m.

Annual banquet planned at VFW Post 3332

NEWTON FALLS — Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3332 and the Ladies Auxiliary will have their annual Past Commanders and Past Presidents Banquet Saturday at the post home, 433 Arlington Road. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7.

Church invites neighbors to have a trunk sale

BOARDMAN — Good Hope Lutheran Church, 98 Homestead Drive, will be having its annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The women’s organization is reaching out to the local community in these tough economic times. The neighborhood has been invited, through fliers, to participate in a trunk sale. In conjunction with the church rummage sale, neighbors are invited to park in a designated spot in the parking lot, open their trunks and sell their treasures. To participate, neighbors must call the church at (330) 782-8109 before Friday.

Community Yard Sale

EAST PALESTINE — The East Palestine Rotary Club will have its fourth annual Community Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at East Palestine City Park with a rain date of Sept. 26.

The event is open to individuals, nonprofit organizations, clubs, church, youth and civic groups selling rummage items, collectibles and commercial and craft vendors.

Fun Walk scheduled

FARRELL,, Pa. — The Farrell Recreation Commission is sponsoring a community-based “Fun Walk for a Healthy Community” to get Farrell and surrounding communities moving.

The Fun Walk will take place Saturday at 9:45 a.m. at Veterans Square (Spearman Avenue). Registration begins at 9 a.m. Included in the event will be a health fair.
