Letter carrier shot in Maple Heights, says U.S. Postal Service

MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio (AP) — The U.S. Postal Service says a carrier has been shot while delivering mail in a Cleveland-area city.

Postal Service spokesman Victor Dubina says the carrier had just begun the route in Maple Heights sometime this morning when the shooting took place.

He says the carrier was taken to a hospital.

No further information was available pending notification of the carrier’s family.

Maple Heights police were releasing no immediate information.

Resident Shirley McCoy tells WEWS-TV that she saw someone following the mail carrier.

Beatrice Morgan tells WJW-TV that she heard a pop, then went outside and was told by neighbors the postal worker had been shot. She says the letter carrier was always on time, well-liked, courteous and polite.
