BOARDMAN POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Boardman and Poland townships:
BOARDMAN
Sept. 12
Theft: A Struthers man, 63, faced charges of theft and criminal trespassing after 12 items, including pairs of shorts and sunglasses, were stolen from Wal-Mart, 1300 Doral Drive.
Arrest: A 46-year-old Petersburg man trying to sell gold at a Market Street store was arrested when officers learned he was wanted by Columbiana County authorities on two theft charges.
Arrest: A Struthers man, 21, was taken into custody in the 500 block of Youngstown-Poland Road and charged with obstructing official business. He had filed a false report regarding a vehicular accident, a report said.
Assault: A traffic stop near Southern Boulevard led to a 27-year-old Youngstown woman’s being picked up on a warrant from Youngstown.
Drugs: Police investigated a suspicious vehicle near Brookwood Road, where they charged a 32-year-old township man with possession of drugs and drug-abuse instruments. Found were four syringes and a small piece of cotton with suspected heroin, a report showed.
Stolen property: Two city men hiding on a porch in Youngstown were apprehended and charged with receiving stolen property, obstructing official business and resisting arrest after police said one of the men was in a stolen truck they tried to stop near Market Street. Both fled on foot, and the Ford F-250 had been stolen in Austintown, a report said.
Breaking and entering: Someone broke the front window, then entered Grunar Co. Inc., 8302 Southern Blvd. A metal filing cabinet and an undisclosed amount of money were missing.
Attempted breaking and entering: Someone tried to break into a vacant piece of rental property in the 7400 block of Sierra Madre Trail.
Theft: A global positioning system device, a stereo and an MP3 player were stolen from a vehicle parked at a Boardman-Poland Road eatery.
Menacing: A Market Street man told police of being threatened with bodily harm.
Theft: Someone entered a truck at a Boardman-Poland Road car dealership and took $85.
Aggravated menacing: A Willow Drive man reported a woman claiming he owes her money threatened via call phone to get someone to beat him up.
Theft: A GPS unit and a satellite radio were removed from a vehicle in the 7600 block of Huntington Drive.
Breaking and entering: Numerous tools were stolen from a shed in the 600 block of Plymouth Drive that had been entered.
Sept. 13
Theft/damage: A vehicle’s passenger side sustained damage in the 700 block of Crestview Drive as someone removed a windshield.
Theft: Someone took $300 from a Lockwood Boulevard apartment.
Theft/vandalism: A man entered a Market Street drug store, drank half a bottle of mouthwash and poured the remainder over numerous packages of allergy medications, rendering them unable to be sold.
Misuse of a credit card: A West Boulevard man checking his account online discovered five unauthorized charges totaling $68.55.
Theft: A GPS and a pair of sunglasses were removed from a car parked in the 500 block of Deer Run Drive.
Identity fraud: A Glen Brook Run woman found out someone had used her identity to open a checking account and buy $276 worth of merchandise at a Lancaster store.
Criminal damaging: A front window was broken at an apartment in the 5000 block of Forest Park Drive.
Sept. 14
Vandalism: Someone threw a piece of blacktop through a double-pane window to a doctor’s office in the 4200 block of Market Street.
Theft: Two $1,000 pieces of jewelry were stolen from a home in the 100 block of North Cadillac Drive.
Theft: Two men stole 17 laptop computers valued at a total of $8,500 from Wal-Mart. They apparently used bolt cutters to remove the locks from display cases, a report said.
Attempted breaking and entering: Someone tried to enter a doctor’s former office in the 6600 block of Market Street.
Theft: A 30-year-old man was picked up at his West Boulevard apartment. He was wanted by Austintown police on nine felony counts.
Theft: A GPS and a leather bag containing a camera and accessories were taken from a vehicle at the Southern Park Mall.
Criminal mischief: Someone likely climbed a fence at a McClurg Road business and pulled loose a set of barbed wire.
Theft: A car at the Southern Park Mall was entered before a GPS device and more than 250 pain pills were removed.
Theft: A township man, 20, was charged with stealing four articles of clothing from Macy’s in the Southern Park Mall.
Assault/burglary: Officers responded to a fight between several people in the 100 block of Lemans Drive, where a man reported an irate woman had entered his apartment unannounced, thereby violating a protection order. He also said the woman tossed frozen- food items, striking him in the head.
Theft: Eighteen compact discs were stolen from Target, 417 Boardman-Poland Road, resulting in a 21-year-old woman’s being charged with theft.
Assault: A woman told authorities her 13-year-old daughter had been shot multiple times with a pellet gun while on Lemans Drive, though the girl had no visible injuries.
Theft: A city man, 40, faced a felony charge, accused of stealing 33 clothing items from Wal-Mart. The loss came to $554.50.
Vehicle theft: A 1992 Jeep Cherokee was stolen at an East Midlothian Boulevard business.
Sept. 15
Domestic violence: A 62-year-old South Avenue man faced a felony count, accused of using a knife to cut a woman’s arm during a struggle.
Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 1100 block of Doral Drive saw $400 worth of damage after a rear window was broken.
Theft: Police charged a 20-year-old township man with stealing four articles of clothing from Macy’s in the Southern Park Mall.
POLAND
Sept. 10
Criminal damaging: A door was damaged at a residence in the 6100 block of Struthers Road.
Sept. 11
Arrest: A 62-year-old man was taken into custody at his Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road home on a contempt-of-court charge.
Arrest: Police investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 4300 block of Arrel Road, where they arrested a Boardman woman, 28. She was wanted on a probation-violation count.
Sept. 14
Breaking and entering/theft: A riding mower and a log-splitting machine were stolen from a garage someone had entered in the 4700 block of Center Road.
Drug paraphernalia: Officers investigated a suspicious car in the 3300 block of Center Road and charged a 19-year-old Struthers man with having a suspected marijuana pipe.
Assault: Authorities received a report that a student at Poland Seminary High School, 3199 Dobbins Road, had assaulted another student.
