Ricks, Stickle lead Canfield boys over Howland


HOWLAND — Jordan Ricks had one goal and one assist and P.J. Stickle the other goal to trigger Canfield (4-2, 1-0-0 ACC Red) to a 2-0 victory over Howland in a boys soccer game on Tuesday.

Canfield goalie Mike Thomas turned in six saves while Howland goalie Robert Daniels had 11 saves.

Canfield outshot Howland (5-1-1, 0-1), 22-13.

JVs: Howland 3-1.

Uniontown Lake 2, Boardman 1

BOARDMAN — Ryan Tomko’s goal with 33:17 remaining in the game was offset by quick goals by Kurt Wolf and Josh Bennett of Lake (3-1-1).

Ten minutes after the goal by Tomko of Boardman (4-1-2, Federal 0-1-1), Bennett scored via a throw-in from Brent Koch. Wolf scored 20 seconds later on a breakaway.

Boardman goalie Garrett Pancake had four saves.

JVs: Boardman, 2-1.

In recent games, Boardman defeated Warren JFK 9-0 and tied Massillon Perry 3-3.

Against JFK, Tomko, Matt Horvatich and Devrim Olgum had two goals apiece while Zaire Morrison, Rich Pipak and Matt Smaldino each had a goal for the Spartans and Pancake had two saves.

Against Perry, Horvatich, Olgum and Ryan Giambattista scored for Boardman. Christian Silvestri had two assists, while Tomko had one assist for the Spartans. Pancake had four saves.

West Branch 3, Northwest 1

CANAL FULTON — Dylan Schaeffer scored two goals and Austen Rekolt added one as West Branch (2-4-2) defeated Northwest. Brian Snoddy had three assists for the Warriors. Matt Latham came up with five saves in goal.

Jordan Benson scored for Northwest, while Seth Miracle had 11 saves in goal.

Liberty 3, Champion 2

LIBERTY — Tom Stark came up with a hat trick for Liberty as he scored all three goals in the Leopards’ shutout.

Liberty goalie Ryan Halicki had eight saves.

Josh Rable had a goal and assist and Dakota Coulter the other goal to lead Champion, while goalie Brandon Brazina had two saves.

Champion outshot Liberty, 22-11.

Girls

Warren JFK 7, Youngstown Christian 0

AUSTINTOWN — Erin McBride scored three goals, while Jerrica Cooper and Kelli Guarnieri each added two as Warren JFK remained unbeaten in seven games.

Cooper, Guarnieri, Sydley Lewis and Megan Lieber all had assists for the Eagles. Goalkeeper Helena Democopoulas had two saves. Devanie Womack made eight saves for Youngstown Christian (5-2-1).

Poland 5, Niles 0

NILES — Senior Taylor Malaniak registered three goals while senior Matt Mrozek had two to power Poland (4-0).

Poland goalie Cooper Kostelic had four saves.

Niles (4-2) goalie J.J. Crowley had 14 saves.
