Girard, Hubbard and Liberty Police Calls


A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Hubbard and Liberty:

GIRARD

Sept. 13

Menacing: An Elruth Court woman told police another woman made threats via phone and text message.

Theft: A Trumbull Avenue man reported the theft of six trailer axles and six tires, for a loss of $2,100.

Vandalism: A boy in the 900 block of North Highland Avenue threw a rock at a truck, then kicked, broke and caused $75 worth of damage to part of a small fence.

Theft: A Patricia Drive woman said her former boyfriend stole about $150 worth of clothing as well as a piece of identification from her.

Burglary: Someone removed an air-conditioning unit before entering an East Liberty Street apartment. A Sony PlayStation 2 game system and a carton of cigarettes were taken.

Assaults: Authorities made two arrests after responding to a melee in the 600 block of Church Hill Road in which a male reported having been punched in the mouth. Also, a woman was charged with assault and criminal trespassing when, police said, they saw her punch another man in the chest and head, then kick him in the groin.

Sept. 14

Theft: Seven pairs of railroad parts were missing from property off U.S. Route 422.

Recovered property: A man found his missing Ford F-150 truck near an embankment in the 600 block of Trumbull Avenue.

Criminal damaging: Police called to an apartment in the 200 block of Church Hill Road found several holes in walls, several pieces of broken furniture strewn about and a ceiling fan that had been destroyed.

Theft: A leaf blower was stolen from a residence in the 700 block of East Liberty Street.

Sept. 15

Assault: Police received a call that a student at Girard High School, 31 N. Ward Ave., struck another student in the face.

Aggravated menacing: Officers responded to an argument between two women in the 300 block of Ohio Avenue and were told that one of the women had pulled a knife and threatened to cut the other.

HUBBARD

Sept. 11

Arrest: An Elizabeth Street resident was arrested on a warrant from the Hubbard Mayor’s Court. The charge was failing to file 2005 city income taxes.

Attempted theft: Two women tried to steal a cart filled with merchandise at Rite Aid Pharmacy, 147 W. Liberty St., before fleeing in a vehicle.

Sept. 12

Theft: An East Liberty Street man reported the hard drive stolen from his computer.

Sept. 14

Drugs: An officer reported finding drug equipment in the rear seat of a cruiser.

Drug paraphernalia: A traffic stop on West Liberty Street led to the arrest of a man, no information given, wanted on a warrant from Youngstown charging him with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Theft: Stereo equipment was removed from a car in the 500 block of West Liberty Street.

LIBERTY

Sept. 10

Recovered property: An Anderson-Morris Road man found a golf cart that several juveniles were thought to have stolen from his yard.

Theft: A Hubbard woman, 22, was charged with stealing $47 worth of merchandise from Wal-Mart, 200 Goldie Road.

Theft: A 21-year-old Girard woman was accused of taking from Wal-Mart a hair brush, eye enhancers and an eyebrow pencil. She was charged.

Burglary: To a residence in the 4600 block of Logan Way after someone pushed in the front door. Stolen were a $16,000 diamond wedding band set, a flat-screen TV and a laptop computer.

Arrest: Authorities picked up a Girard man, 24, at the Community Corrections Association in Youngstown. He was wanted on a warrant from the township.

Arrest: The Mahoning County Violent Crimes Task Force arrested a 29-year-old man, no city listed, on a warrant from the township charging him with failure to comply with police.

Theft: Two Campbell males, 16 and 20, were charged after 10 plastic pairs of sunglasses were stolen from Wal-Mart. The teen also was charged with aggravated menacing when, a report said, he had threatened an employee.

Sept. 11

Theft: An 11-year-old Girard boy faced charges of theft and criminal trespassing after officers got a report that someone had stolen a Belmont Avenue woman’s 1995 Dodge pickup truck. Police later stopped the vehicle driven by the boy, who was released to the custody of his mother, a report said.

Arrest: A Niles woman, 24, was picked up at Girard Municipal Court on a warrant from Liberty.

Theft: A man took several cans of beer and a food product from a Shell Xpressgas station, 3990 Belmont Ave.

Theft: A 43-year-old New Springfield man was charged, accused of stealing $174 worth of merchandise from Wal-Mart.

Auto theft: A township man accused a woman of stealing his 1995 Chrysler convertible and $10.

Sept. 12

Bad checks: A 22-year-old Girard woman was accused of passing two such checks totaling $781 at Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave., though she had not been charged at the time of the report.

Theft: A 36-year-old Youngstown man was charged with stealing a $6 bottle of pain medication from a Speedway gas station, 4210 Belmont Ave.

Arrest: A 43-year-old Monticello Boulevard man was picked up at his residence on a warrant from the township charging him with receiving stolen property.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 100 block of Laurel Street had two of its tires slashed.

Sept. 13

Theft: Two Jacksonville, Fla., men, 18 and 23, faced charges of theft and complicity to theft, respectively, after $46 worth of items was stolen from Wal-Mart.

Attempted burglary: Someone tried to enter a residence in the 300 block of Beverly Hills Drive by cutting the screen to a rear window.

Sept. 14

Domestic violence: A 34-year-old man was taken into custody at his Hadley Avenue home and charged with grabbing his girlfriend and repeatedly shoving her head into a sofa. She had a small bruise to her forehead.

Menacing: A Marla Lane woman told police she received from her former boyfriend several unwanted calls, on one of which he threatened to shoot her in the face.

Attempted breaking and entering: Someone tried to break into JS Northeast Co., 1699 Shannon Road via the garage/shop area.

Menacing: An employee with a Church Hill-Hubbard Road business told police of receiving threats over the phone from a customer irate about a bill he had gotten.
