Reeves scouts jails of Buffalo for film locations
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Actor Keanu Reeves had no problem getting inside Buffalo-area jails. The feds haven’t been so lucky.
The star of “The Matrix” film trilogy spent last weekend scouting locations for a new film. His visit included tours of two jail facilities that are the target of a U.S. Justice Department lawsuit accusing the Erie County Sheriff’s Department of civil rights violations.
County officials have barred federal investigators from the jails, but Reeves was given tours of the facilities on Sunday.
Afterward county officials said Reeves shouldn’t have been allowed inside the jails.
Reeves was checking out possible film locations for “Henry’s Crime,” which casts him as a toll-booth worker wrongly accused of robbing a Buffalo bank.
Toys R Us giraffe dies
BOSTON — A giraffe that starred in a series of TV commercials for Toys R Us and appeared in Jim Carrey’s movie “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” has died at a Boston zoo.
American Humane, an animal welfare group that oversees animal treatment on movie sets, said Tweet the giraffe died Friday at the Franklin Park Zoo where producers are filming the Kevin James movie “The Zookeeper.”
The 18-year-old giraffe didn’t belong to the zoo and had no known health problems.
Tweet collapsed in its enclosure while feeding and in the care of his trainer. Results of a necropsy are pending.
The animal welfare group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, alleges Tweet was mistreated and has asked for an investigation. American Humane denies mistreatment.
Kanye West gives personal apology to Taylor Swift
NEW YORK — It looks like Kanye West has finally given a personal apology to Taylor Swift.
