Hazardous-waste collections planned in Lawrence County
At both collections, people will have to pay to drop off their waste materials.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Two hazardous-waste collections have been set by Lawrence County Recycling/Solid Waste and Pennsylvania CleanWays of Butler and Lawrence counties.
An appliance, electronics and tire recycling event is set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds on Pa. Route 108.
Appliances, audio/visual equipment, batteries, computer equipment, fluorescent lights, office equipment, phones, tires and televisions will be accepted at costs ranging from 10 cents for button cells to $30 for television consoles and big-screen TVs. There is no charge to drop off VHS tapes, DVDs and CDs. For $1, the collection will also accept a banker’s box of paper that will be shredded on site. Newspapers will not be accepted.
On Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the fairgrounds, household hazardous waste will be collected. Some of the acceptable materials include aerosols, antifreeze, brake fluid, electronics, fluorescent tubes and lights, insect sprays, latex paints, mercury, pool chemicals and propane tanks. Some unacceptable materials are drugs, firearms, explosives and tires. Fees range from $3 per gallon for liquids and solids to $10 for propane tanks under 20 pounds and $15 for propane tanks over 20 pounds. Terms are cash only the day of the event for both collections. No personal checks will be accepted.
