Antioch College restoration to begin

YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio (AP) — Renovation and restoration projects are in the works as an alumni group takes over Antioch College with hopes of reopening it as an independent school in two years.

Matthew Derr, the college’s chief transition officer, says alumni and other supporters have donated more than $10 million this year for a $50 million capital campaign.

He says top priority is restoring buildings at the Yellow Springs campus in southwest Ohio. Work on Antioch Hall will start by the college alumni reunion on Oct. 2.

Officials plan to hire 37 staff members by October for both the college and a nature preserve, among assets transferred this month from Antioch University.

The university temporarily closed the college a year ago because of financial problems.
