NILES — Family members and invited guests congratulated Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cleary of Niles as the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary during a dinner reception on Aug. 1 at Leo’s Ristorant in Howland.

Hosts for the event were their sons and their wives, Fred and Dee Cleary of Stow and Dan and Colleen Cleary of Concord. Their grandchildren are Stephen, Shannon, Marissa, Matthew, Ashley and Sydney Cleary.

On Aug. 1, 1959, the former Mary Ann Vecchione and Mr. Cleary were united in marriage at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles, where they are members.

Mr. Cleary served with the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and was superintendent at Fairhaven School in Niles prior to retiring in 1990. He is a member of Niles Lions Club, the K.of C., and Trumbull County Superintendent’s Association.

Mrs. Cleary retired in 1991 as a secretary with the former Trumbull County Board of Education in Warren.

As a prelude to their anniversary, the couple renewed their nuptial vows on June 14 during a wedding anniversary celebration officiated by Bishop George Murry at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown.
