Counselor education
Rachel Hoffman recently earned her doctor of philosophy degree in counselor education and supervision from Kent State University.
She earned her master of science in education degree at Youngstown State University in the community counseling program and a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from YSU.
Hoffman is an Ohio-licensed professional clinical counselor and a nationally certified counselor. She works as a program manager for Meridian Services Inc. and as an adjunct instructor in the department of counseling and special education at YSU.
While completing her doctoral studies, Hoffman served as president of the Kappa Sigma Upsilon Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, an international counseling honor society, at KSU. She also was the 2006-2007 president of the East Ohio Counseling Association. She has received several awards for her service to the counseling profession.
She is the 2008 recipient of the Dr. David K. Brooks Professional Service Award, an award presented by the Counseling and Human Development Services Program Faculty at KSU. Hoffman also was selected as the recipient of the 2008 Ohio Association for Counselor Education and Supervision Distinguished Graduate Student Award.
She is involved in numerous professional counseling association activities and is active at both the national and state level.
Counseling
Vanessa Marie Jones-Frengel graduated with a doctorate in counseling from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minn.
Jones-Frengel and her husband, Anthony, live in Boardman. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rheuben C. Jones of Liberty.
Jones-Frengel, a former Youngstown police officer, is a graduate of Brookfield High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University in criminal justice/pre-law. She also earned two master’s degrees — in education in community and child and adolescent counseling and in criminal justice — from YSU.
She is a supervising licensed professional clinical counselor, a national certified counselor, and a certified rational living therapist (II).
She is in private practice in Poland, where she sees adolescents and adults. In addition, she and her husband own a residential behavioral-health center for adolescents in Youngstown.
Education
Carol Louis Staten of Youngstown recently graduated with a doctorate in education from Youngstown State University.
Staten, her husband and family live in Youngstown. She is the daughter of the Rev. Edmond and Constance Southerland.
She is a 1973 graduate of The Rayen School and earned her bachelor of science degree in education and her master of science degree in education administration from YSU.
Staten retired after 31 years as an educator with 29 years of service in the Youngstown City School District where she was a teacher, supervisor, assistant principal and principal. She is teaching part time at YSU. She has three children, two stepchildren, five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
