YOUNGSTOWN — Two city men are being held in the county jail on a combined $300,000 bond after a shootout on the city’s South Side.

Braylon Richardson, 21, of Idlewood Avenue, was arraigned Friday before Judge Robert Milich in Youngstown Municipal Court on two counts of felonious assault. His bond has been set at $200,000.

Jerry Perry, 39, also of Idlewood Avenue, also was arraigned before Judge Milich on a single charge of felonious assault. His bond has been set at $100,000.

According to police, a 37-year-old Warren Avenue man told police two men in a black SUV began shooting at him for no reason Thursday afternoon. Police found the truck parked in the 3000 block of Idlewood with Perry and Richardson sitting inside.

Reports say officers found a handgun in Richardson’s pants pocket and ammunition for the gun in another pocket. Perry is believed to have been driving the vehicle.

Police say Richardson told officers that he shot at the Warren Avenue man because his own Idlewood Avenue house has been shot up several times lately, and the “dude was creeping down the street too close to the back of my house.”

Richardson, police said, fired about eight shots at the man, then Richardson and Perry jumped into the SUV to find and question the man.

Perry told police he and his family are moving out of the Idlewood Avenue home because it has been “shot up” and went to the home to retrieve some items but found the back door and window open and a red truck leaving the driveway. He said the driver of the red truck pulled out a gun when he and Richardson tried to confront him, and Richardson began firing.

Police spoke with the Warren Avenue man, who said he was attempting to turn around on West Boston not far from Idlewood Avenue when the men began firing at him, hitting his red truck multiple times.
