Ewing, Hull lead Reserve in shutout


SOUTHINGTON — Shane Ewing and Clayton Hull had another big night Friday as the Western Reserve High football team rolled to its third straight victory by shutting out Southington, 28-0.

Ewing connected on 17 of 28 passes for 299 yards and four touchdowns, three of them to Hull, who finished six receptions for 156 yards. Ewing also tossed a 55 yard TD pass to Ryley Sheptock.

Hull had touchdown receptions of 38, 60 and 25 yards. Ewing was also the Blue Devils’ top rusher finishing with 33 yards on five carries.

Southington was led by tailback Jim Rasey who gained 156 yards on 44 carries.

Crestview 16, Tuscarawas Valley 14

ZOARVILLE — Junior tailback Andrew Mayer rushed 14 times for 125 yards, while junior quarterback Carter Hill, a second-year starter, threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Tristan Reynolds for the Rebels (3-0).

Tuscarawas Valley pulled to within two points with 1:46 remaining, but the home team turned the ball over on downs with 1:07 to go at Crestview’s 36.

The Rebels also repelled Tusky Valley in the red zone in the first half with an interception. Later in the game, Crestview’s Brian Orr picked off another pass.

Tuscarawas Valley quarterback Nick Barr was 18 of 35 for 250 yards.

Leetonia 46, Mathews 6

VIENNA — Senior receiver Dalton Scott caught two TD passes from Lance Tullis and Cody Stokes was also on the receiving end in the lopsided win for Leetonia (2-1).

Tullis completed 5 of 5 passes for 115 yards for the winners, who had a 20-0 halftime lead.

Justin Colella and Scott Anderson returned interceptions for touchdowns: Colella’s 70 yards and Anderson’s 38 yards.

Seth McNally added a 40-yard TD run for Leetonia. Devin Miller’s 3-yard run completed the scoring for the visitors. Also for the Bears, Dan Davanzo recovered a fumble.

United 7, Rootstown 0

HANOVERTON — Josh McLaughlin connected with Ryan Powell for a 64-yard scoring pass with 9:25 remaining in the game.

McLaughlin was 10 of 20 for 175 yards, the TD and two interceptions. He also led the Golden Eagles (1-2) with 18 yards rushing. Powell caught three passes for 83 yards.

Zach Taylor added 54 yards on four catches. United held a 257-145 edge in total yards.

Wellsville 44, Lisbon 7

WELLSVILLE — Jeramy Carter rushed for 183 yards on 15 carries and scored four touchdowns to lead the Tigers (3-0).

Carter scored three TDs in the first half as Wellsville jumped out to a 32-0 lead.

The Tigers gained 330 yards, all on the ground, and held Lisbon (0-3) to 114 yards rushing and 26 passing.

Zack Barnes rushed for 54 yards and scored Lisbon’s only touchdown, a 35-yard run with 4:23 remaining in the game.

Southern 28, Toronto 0

TORONTO — Bryan Brinker rushed for 226 yards on 11 carries and scored two touchdowns as Southern blanked Toronto.

Brinker scored on runs of 50 and 39 yards, while Josh Melhorn added a two-yard TD run and Dylan Puckett scored on a 15-yard run for Southern, which rolled up 374 yards on the ground.

Toronto was held to just 113 total yards, 108 of them on the ground.
