Vote for Phantoms mascot name

YOUNGSTOWN — Hockey fans have until Thursday to help select the name of the Youngstown Phantoms’ mascot, a purple dragon.

After hundreds of fan submissions, five were selected as finalists.

The names and the first person to suggest them are: Sparky (David Beck, North Lima); Scorch (Charlotte Lee, East Palestine); Phlames (Ryan Demyen, Hubbard); Deke (Nathan Knaus, Boardman); and Slasher (Andrea Sage, Canfield).

Visit www.youngstownphantoms.com to vote.

Whoever submitted the winning name will receive two Orange Level flex plan ticket packages for the 2009-10 United States Hockey League season (10 undated vouchers each worth $220), a Phantoms merchandise prize package, a special meet-and-greet with the mascot and recognition on Opening Night (Oct. 3).

Voting ends Sept. 17, with the winner to be announced Sept. 18.
