Rain postpones NYPL semifinal game
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Rain postponed Thursday’s deciding Game 3 of the New York-Penn League semifinals between the Lowell Spinners and the Staten Island Yankees.
The game will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Normally, the game would be made up tonight, but Staten Island’s ballpark, which looks directly across the Hudson River to the site where the World Trade Center once stood, will remain idle in observance of the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers, who swept their opening round series, will meet the winner on Monday evening at the opposing team’s ballpark.
The Scrappers would then play the second and (if necessary) third games at Eastwood Field on Wednesday and Thursday.
Mahoning Valley is in the NYPL championship for the fourth time, winning the title in 2004 and falling in three games in both 1999 and 2000.
The Scrappers (49-27) finished with the best record in the NYPL.
