Hundreds mark Sept. 11 anniversary in Austintown

AUSTINTOWN — About 250 people packed into the Mahoning Valley 9-11 Memorial Park on Raccoon Road to pay their respects to those who lost their lives during the sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The Austintown Beautification Committee, which is responsible for the park, had a memorial service to mark the eighth anniversary of the attacks. Guest speaker John Infante, a former employee of the Pentagon, told those gathered that his old office was “about a two-minute walk” from the impact site.

“I could take you to the spot in Mt. Carmel School in Niles when Kennedy was shot. And I can tell you exactly where I was and what I was doing during the attacks,” he said.

The service also included the Austintown Fitch Concert Choir, representatives from the police and fire departments and the laying of wreaths.
