Weathersfield seeks bids for property demolition

MINERAL RIDGE — Weathersfield Township trustees will seek bids to demolish six residential properties.

Trustees in June said the properties should be condemned. Trustee William Miller said the homeowners have been notified that the properties must be repaired, but the township has had no response from them.

“The township does absorb the cost of demolishing the properties,” he said.

Bids are sought for the demolition work, and the township pays for the work and then puts a lien on the property.

Miller said that the number of properties listed by the township as nuisances — and presented to the Trumbull County Board of Health for condemnation — is “a lot, and there are a lot more.”

The houses are: 2360 Brightwood Ave.; 104 E. Emmet St.; 1760 N. State St.; 3410 McDonald Ave.; 2210 Garfield Ave.; and 1487 Salt Springs Road.

If anyone is interested in rebuilding or restoring any of the houses listed, they are welcome to do so, Miller noted.

He said the work to eliminate rundown or abandoned residential properties is an ongoing process. “It’s nothing new; we are just following through and trying to improve things.”

Trustees approved 16 residential properties for condemnation in June. Miller noted the six properties were all the township can afford to do right now.

The county board of health and the township fire department also must examine the houses to determine if they are to be condemned.
