Workers to transfer at GM Lordstown

LORDSTOWN — About 200 union workers at the Lordstown car complex will transfer from the assembly plant to the metal-stamping plant next month.

United Auto Workers Local 1112 issued a flier to members that described the process for those workers who wish to transfer. The transfer includes about 160 production workers and 35 skilled-trades workers.

Jim Graham, president of Local 1112, said the change is necessary because some operations have been shifted from the assembly plant to the fabricating plant as part of efforts to prepare for next year’s launch of the Chevrolet Cruze.

F.N.B. to buy back stock from U.S. Treasury

HERMITAGE, Pa. — F.N.B. Corp. said it is buying back all of the preferred stock it sold to the U.S. Treasury in January. The preferred stock was issued to the Treasury Department as part of a federal plan to invigorate the nation’s credit market.

F.N.B., the parent company of First National Bank of Pennsylvania, is paying $100.3 million to the Treasury Department to redeem the preferred stock, which includes the original investment amount of $100 million plus accrued unpaid dividends of $300,000.

Stephen Gurgovits, F.N.B. president and chief executive, said the company made the move because of its strong capital position.

Tentative Goodyear pact will protect plants

AKRON — A tentative contract between the United Steelworkers and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. protects six of seven U.S. tire plants from closing for the next four years.

Union members Tuesday received a summary of the deal reached with the Akron-based tire maker Aug. 30. The union says a ratification vote is expected to be completed by Sept. 18.

According to the Steelworkers, the contract maintains minimum staffing levels at plants in Akron; Buffalo, N.Y.; Danville, Va.; Fayetteville, N.C.; Gadsden, Ala.; and Topeka, Kan. The union did not list a seventh factory, in Union City, Tenn.
