Sharon Regional Health System plans $1.7M center in Hubbard

HUBBARD — Sharon Regional Health System has plans for a new $1.7 million Hubbard Diagnostic and Speciality Center to occupy some 11,500 square feet in the former Nemenz/IGA food store at 880 W. Liberty St.

The announcement was made at Hubbard Council caucus Tuesday night.

Construction is expected to begin in October and be complete by late January 2010.

The new center will bring speciality physicians to Hubbard in the areas of cardiology, general surgery, sports medicine and orthopedic surgery along with diagnostic tests including X-ray, ultrasound, EKGs, presurgical testing, laboratory tests along with physical therapy and a specialized heart center for advanced cardiac testing.

The center will accept all physical requests for diagnostic tests and therapies no matter what hospital affiliation.

The specialized heart center is a satellite of Sharon Regional’s Heart and Vascular Institute and will offer cardiac stress tests, cardiac nuclear medicine, cardiac echocardiography and general-office cardiology through Sharon Cardiology Specialists.

The Sharon Regional cardiology group opened an office Sept. 1 at 892 W. Liberty St. Cardiologists are Drs. James Ryan, Jose Millan, Ronnie Mignella, J. Ronald Mikolich, Nicola Nicoloff, Michael Burley and Brandon Mikolich.

The new center also will serve as a satellite for Sharon Regional Sports Medicine Services and offer appointments with Drs. Keith Lustig and Ernest Swanson, sports medicine specialists. There also will be a sports medicine therapy and rehabilitation center where Dr. Brian Shannon, spine surgeon and joint-replacement specialist, will see patients.

General surgeons who will see patients at the center will be Dr. Ravi Sachdeva, Gene Marcelli, Craig McKinney and Ravi Alapati.

Staff from the center will present community-health education programs and conduct blood pressure and other screenings.

Sharon Regional has seen an increase in physicians from Youngstown and Hubbard who have joined the staff including Dr. Howard Slemons, family medicine; Dr. Samir Wahib, obstetrician/ gynecologist; and Drs. Mikolich, Nicoloff and Burley, cardiologists; and Drs. Shaun Hennon, Frederick Kurz and Donald Person, anesthesiologists.

SRHS has more than 1,750 employees, making it one of the largest employers in the region. It also has satellite facilities in Hermitage, Mercer, Greenville and Brookfield. Specialized services include Advanced Wound Recovery Center, Behavioral Health Services, Breast Care Center, Cancer Care Center, Diabetes Center, Diagnostic and Imaging Center, Emergency Care Center, Home Health Agency, Hospice/Palliative Care Program, Rehab Center, Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, Schools of Nursing and Radiography, Sleep Medicine Center, Sports Medicine Services, Therapeutic Pool, Women’s Center and Ear, Nose, Throat and Hearing Center.

It also operates the Heart Institute, Mercer County’s only center for open-heart surgery, angioplasty and advanced heart care.
