YOUNGSTOWN — The city’s design-review committee approved a request for a $700,000 expansion project at a senior-citizen retirement facility on Fifth Avenue.

Park Vista is purchasing an 8-foot-by-12-foot therapy pool to be placed in its basement on the northeast corner of the facility, said John Gresko, the agency’s director of environmental services.

The pool will be enclosed in an addition that is 20 feet long, 26 feet wide and 12 feet high, he said.

Construction should begin in October and is expected to done in three to four months, Gresko said.

Park Vista, on the city’s North Side, has received all the needed construction permits from the city for the work, said Bill D’Avignon, the city’s community development agency director and head of the design- review committee.

The final approval for the project came Tuesday with the design- review committee voting to approve the design.

The committee oversees exterior work to buildings downtown and in surrounding areas in Youngstown.

“It’s a good addition to the facility,” said John DeFrance, an architect and committee member.
