Need for clean water stressed by speaker
AUSTINTOWN — During a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Austintown, Dan Pappalardo, speaking for the AWE Foundation, stressed the need for providing clean water and education for people in remote villages of El Salvador.
He said a recent well digging project had some setbacks but eventually was successful due to a matching grant from the Rotary Foundation.
He said the AWE also has provided seven students with scholarships of $1,000 each to be used for college educations. In return for the funds, each student must do community service in their own town.
Pappalardo recently moved from Findlay to the area with his wife and two daughters. He will teach Spanish at South Range High School.
Individuals can send contributions to the AWE Foundation at 4286 Burkey Road, Austintown, OH 44515.
