Fair awards to crow about
Awards to crow about
CANFIELD — DiRusso Sausage will offer an award for the best crow.
Today at 9:30 a.m. in the South Ring by the Pony Palace, rooster-crowing skills will be put to the test.
The winners will be given awards from DiRusso’s Sausage.
‘Dunk-A-Cop’ contest
CANFIELD — Police officers are giving fairgoers a chance to take them out, but there’s a catch.
The “Dunk-A-Cop” booth outside the Government Building at the fair allows people to throw a baseball at a target to drop an officer into a tank of water.
It may not be as easy as it looks though, because everyone who throws a ball must wear “fatal vision” goggles, which simulate what a person would see if he or she were impaired by alcohol or drugs.
It’s Pig Iron Derby day
CANFIELD — The Draft Horse Pig Iron Derby is one tradition that keeps on pulling.
George Roman, fair board member, said today’s annual derby usually draws a large crowd.
“It’s a pretty neat thing because horses from all over the country can come in,” he said. “It’s been done every year as far as I can tell.”
Roman said the event runs from 8 to 11 a.m. in the Grandstand.
He said horses are hooked up to a sled that is filled with a piece of what is called pig iron. The horses must pull the sled a certain distance, and the one that pulls the farthest wins.
