Smiths renew vows in celebration of 50th anniversary

PORTAGE LAKES — Richard Smith and Patricia Reed were married Sept. 5, 1959, at St. Paul Church in Salem. Their home is at Portage Lakes.

They have four children, Susan (Mike) Ciccolini, James (Beth) Smith, Laura (Drew) Engles, and Sherrie (Jim) Jones. Their family also includes nine grandchildren.

The couple met at Kent State University. Mr. Smith is retired from O’Neils and May Department stores in St. Louis after 38 years of service. Mrs. Smith worked as a medical assistant part-time for 20 years.

A celebration honored the couple’s 50th anniversary on Sept. 5, including renewal of their wedding vows at St. Francis DeSales Church in Akron and a family dinner to follow. They plan to spend a few weeks at their condo in Siesta Key, Fla., this month.
