GIRLS SOCCER

Boardman 9, Springfield 2

BOARDMAN — Heather Hughes scored six goals to power Boardman (3-1-0).

Kayleigh Huck, Kristy Lake and Kelley Manning each added one goal for the Spartans. Hailey Dickey and Danielle Petrus contributed three assists apiece and Lauren Furgan and Corinne DeCesare had one assist each. Springfield’s goals were scored by Lexi Zubick on a penalty kick and Braeden Mincher on a free kick. Boardman goalkeeper Cheyenne Khatib had five saves while Springfield goalie Tiffany Johnson had 19.

JVs: Boardman 6, Springfield 1.

Canfield 3, Mooney 0

STRUTHERS — Audrey Smith scored two goals and Michelle Gettemy one goal to lead Canfield (2-0-1) at Valley Sports. Paige Baker contributed two assists for Canfield, which attempted 32 shots on goal. Canfield goalkeeper Jackie Podolsky had one save Mooney goalie Rachael Letscher had 20 saves.

Champion 1, Lakeview, 1

CHAMPION — Lindsey Clark’s unassisted goal at seven minutes into the game lifted Lakeview into a tie. Champion (1-2-1) had taken a 1-0 lead at five minutes into the game on Morgan White’s goal with an assist from Marissa White. Lakeview (4-0-1) goalkeeper Elaine Moldavan made seven saves while Champion goalie Taylor Petersal had 14.

JVs: Champion won, 2-0.

Hathaway Brown 2, Howland 0

SHAKER HEIGHTS — No details were reported.

Fitch 4, West Branch 1

BELOIT — Kacie Donahue, Emily Durina, Kelsey Martin and Sara Ford each registered a goal to key Fitch (1-1-1), which took a 3-1 halftime lead. Tori Koch had three assists and Kaity Shiley one assist to aid the Falcons. Niki Carlton scored the goal for West Branch (1-3). Fitch enjoyed a 28-2 advantage in shots, and had a 7-3 margin in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Ali Tolich of the Falcons had two saves while West Branch goalie Sierra Woolf came through with 16.

JVs: Fitch, 4-0.

BOYS SOCCER

Mooney 2, Bay Village 2

BAY VILLAGE — Cardinal Mooney had a 2-0 halftime lead over Bay Village, but was unable to hold it. Freshman Jack Creech scored a goal with 7:38 left in the game on an aassist from Jackson Heller, to pull Bay Village into a 2-2 tie with Mooney (3-1-1). The Cardinals built their 2-0 lead on a pair of goals from Thomas Beck with assists from Eric Ehrenberg and Cory Ryhal, respectively. Bay Village (2-0-3) launched its comeback when Sam Dickenson scored an unassisted goal at 3:00 into second half. Mooney goalie David Perry had nine saves and Bay goalie Nate McDonald had five saves.

JVs: Bay Village, 4-0.

Boardman 3, Canfield 2

BOARDMAN — Christian Silvestri had two goals and one assist to lead Boardman (3-0-1). Matt Horvatich also scored a goal while Zaire Morrison, Nico DiIanni and Christian Silvestri each had an assist to bolster the Spartans. Canfield got its goals from Jordan Ricks on a penalty kick and Jon Hutnyan on an assist from Dylan Seybert. Boardman goalie Garrett Pancake delivered seven saves while Canfield goalie Mike Thomas had six.

JVs: Boardman won, 5-0.

VOLLEYBALL

Boardman 25-25-25, Howland 22-14-23

HOWLAND — Stephanie Sfara had 12 kills, three aces and eight digs and Kristy Lake 10 kills and three blocks to lead Boardman (3-2). Amanda Velosin added seven kills, two aces and 19 assists while Monica Touvelle had seven kills, three aces and 16 assists. For Howland (2-2), Nia Grant had 19 kills and two blocks, Kaylee Redon seven kills, four blocks and five aces, Morgan Alden eight digs and four aces and Elena Rounsley two aces.

JVs: Howland, 15-25, 25-19, 32-20.

Western Reserve 25-25, Sebring 12-13

BERLIN CENTER — For Sebring, Taylor Nannah had four kills and a block. Taylor Ward had three points, four kills and two digs. Jorri Zmuda had three points, 20 passes and two digs and Emma Brownlee had two points, two kills and 10 passes.

Friday

Independence 27, South Range 20

INDEPENDENCE — South Range had a 20-14 lead in the third quarter, but Independence rallied for six points in the third period and seven in the fourth to pull out the win to stay unbeaten at 2-0. Tony Schekter hit Lenny Williams with a 4-yard touchdown pass with less than a minute left in the third to yank Independence even at 20-20. Then with 5:00 left in the game, Schekter plunged a yard to a TD and Tim Johns hit the placement to doom the Raiders (1-1). Schekter completed 11 of 22 passes for 209 yards while Andy Reboff rushed for 97 yards in 14 carries and one TD of 11 yards. Vince Miller hit on eight of 20 passes for 124 yards, including a 30-yard TD strike to Kyle Seaver, to lead South Range. Hunter Smith also led the Raiders by rushing for 102 yards in 12 carries, including a 20-yard TD dash.
