New exhibit will mark Historical Society event
YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will celebrate 134 years with a free Founders Day open house at the Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave., 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 13. The family event will feature games and crafts for children, refreshments and tours of the museum. A new exhibit, The Mahoning Valley Collects, will open and a walking tour of historic Wick Avenue will start at 1 p.m.
Mahoning Valley Collects explores the things people collect and will feature several collections, including postcards, political memorabilia, dolls, cameras and American Indian artifacts.
The exhibit will run through September 2010.
Regular museum hours are Tuesday-Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Group tours are available Tuesday-Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, go to mahoninghistory.org or call (330) 743-2589.
RoadHounds to hold Donut Jamboree
NEWTON FALLS — The Howland RoadHounds Car Club will host Papa Bruce’s second annual Donut Jamboree, a tribute to Jamie Bunker, who is one of its founding members, on Sept. 13 at Melody Lane Ballroom, 2864 Newton Falls Road.
The event will include food vendors, a car show, raffle and Chinese auction. Donations will be collected at the gate. All proceeds will benefit Fairhaven Foundation and the Fairhaven Special Olympics.
Bunker died of cancer in January. She taught at Fairhaven School her entire educational career and received the Golden Apple Teacher of the Year Award for her outstanding efforts in serving students with disabilities.
Her husband, Bruce Bunker, established a fund within the Fairhaven Foundation in Jamie Bunker’s memory.

Hungarian Heritage Day will be next Sunday
YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown American Hungarian Club, 2219 Donald Ave., will celebrate its annual Hungarian Heritage Day from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 13, with authentic Hungarian folk art, music and food.
The menu consists of Hungarian goulash, stuffed cabbage, stuffed peppers, chicken dinner, cabbage and noodles, kolbasi and sauerkraut and various pastries, including crepes and dobos torta, the nine-layer tort.
A boutique will offer preserves, spices, noodles, clothing, books, cards and more. The Hungarians, a band from Cleveland, will play both American and Hungarian favorites. There is ample parking and security. Admission is $2.
Jillian’s to launch live music venue
BOARDMAN — Jillian’s in Southern Park Mall has renovated the pool-room area of the establishment, turning it into a live music spot that it calls The Venue. Bands will be booked on Friday nights. Inaugurating the room will be local rock band Acoustic Juggernaut, who will perform at 10 p.m. Friday.
Patriotic bike night at Quaker Steak
AUSTINTOWN — Quaker Steak & Lube on Interstate Drive (off Route 46 at Interstate 80) will host a special Patriot’s Day Bike Nite at 7 p.m. Thursday with a ceremony to commemorate Sept. 11 and honor past and present members of the armed forces.
Motorcyclists will enter Bike Nite through a specially designed entrance. A variety of military decorations will be on display in the parking lot.
