PITTSFORD, N.Y. — Mount Union scored four first-half touchdowns en route to a 52-10 season-opening win against St. John Fisher before 4,230 fans at Growney Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Senior quarterback Kurt Rocco, who was making his first career start, threw a career-high three touchdown passes including three to All-American wide receiver Cecil Shorts III.

Rocco finished 13-of-16 for 249 yards.

The Purple Raiders built a 28-10 halftime lead on a pair of Rocco TD passes and freshman Neal Seaman added his first collegiate scoring pass in the first half.

Heidelberg 43 Westminster 26

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — The Westminster College football team lost its season opener against Heidelberg, 42-26, snapping the Titans’ seven-game home streak, their longest streak since 1994.

The Titans (0-1) led by as many as 10 points at 17-7 and 17-14 at halftime, before Heidelberg quarterback Andrew Miller threw a pair of third-quarter touchdown passes to Mike Preston for 61 and 71 yards, respectively, to give the Student Princes (1-0) a 28-17 lead with 1:09 remaining in the third quarter.

Westminster whittled the lead down to eight points but could not threaten any further.

Westminster senior wide receiver Chad Rosatelli tied the school record for receptions in a game as he snared 13 balls for 122 yards. His 13 catches ties Brett Ziegler (at Thiel in 2006) and Brian Ekis (at Thomas More in 2003).

Senior tight end Gary Hutsler also caught seven passes for 87 yards to become Westminster’s all-time leader for receptions by a tight end with 56.

Bethany 28 Otterbein 7

BETHANY, W.Va. — The Bethany football team entered the fourth quarter tied with Otterbein at 7-7, but the 24th-ranked Cardinals scored three times in the final period.

The season couldn’t have had a much better start for Bethany as the Bison took the opening kickoff and drove 91 yards in 14 plays for the initial score of the year.

They converted a pair of third downs and one fourth-and-two on a six-yard run by junior RB Marcus Santini on the drive, which was capped by a six-yard scoring run from freshman RB Solomon Griffin for a 7-0 BC lead.

Dickinson 52 Grove City 47

GROVE CITY, Pa. — Senior quarterback Andrew DiDonato accumulated a school-record 400 yards of individual total offense and also became Grove City’s career leader in touchdown passes with 34.

Grove City gained 449 yards of total offense and 27 first downs. However, Dickinson scored 28 fourth-quarter points in erasing Grove City’s 34-24 lead.

Dickinson scored a pair of touchdowns in a three-minute span in the fourth quarter to take a 38-34 lead. However, the Wolverines regained the lead with 6:24 left on a one-yard touchdown run from sophomore tailback Blaine Miller.

Duquesne 24 Bucknell 19

PITTSBURGH — Dave Williams caught 11 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown to lead Duquesne to a season-opening victory over Bucknell.

The Dukes broke a five-game losing streak in the series.

Connor Dixon replaced injured starter Kevin Rombach, who left with a concussion, and went 15 of 21 for 212 yards. Rombach was 7 of 10 for 110 yards and a 36-yard touchdown pass to Michael Rasky.

Dixon connected with Williams on a 35-yard touchdown to give the Dukes a 24-13 lead with 11:24 left in the fourth quarter.

Duquesne outgained Bucknell 429-360.

Bucknell’s Marcello Trigg was 18 of 34 for 152 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and C.J. Hopson ran for a career-high 136 yards.

Trigg also scored on a 1-yard run to cut Duquesne’s lead to 17-13 at halftime.
