Metchkov to perform at Bliss Recital Hall

YOUNGSTOWN — Zahari Metchkov will perform in concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Youngstown State University’s Bliss Recital Hall.

A pianist and an organist, Metchkov has performed at New York’s Avery Fisher Hall and Washington’s Kennedy Center, as well as in Israel and Bulgaria, and released his first CD in 2008.

He is a faculty member at the Cleveland Institute of Music and at YSU.

Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, he began his studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music. In 2005, Metchkov received CIM’s Henry Fusner Prize for Excellence of Achievement in organ and the Dr. and Mrs. K.L. Wu Memorial Award in Piano. In 2006, he won the educational scholarship of the Cleveland AGO chapter. Metchkov has also been named the recipient of CIM’s Arthur Lesser award in piano.
