Mathews 50th marked in Boston during weekend

STRUTHERS — Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Mathews, 587 W. Omar St., celebrated their 50th anniversary during the Aug. 23-25 weekend in Boston. In addition to sightseeing, the couple went to a Red Sox baseball game.

Hosts for the weekend were their children and their spouses, Jim and Shirley Burgham of Poland and Ronald and Mary Mathews of Struthers. There are three grandchildren in the family.

St. Nicholas Church, where they are members, was the setting on Aug. 22, 1959, as Mr. Mathews and the former Patricia Brennard were united in marriage.

Mrs. Mathews was an assistant manager with Vic & Syl Corporation prior to retiring in 2000. She is a member of the Knights of Columbus 4224 Ladies, the Bedford Golf League, and the Bedford Monday and Thursday golf leagues.

Mr. Mathews retired in 1995 as fleet maintenance supervisor with the National Linen Co. in Youngstown. He is the councilman-at-large for the City of Struthers, is the grand knight of Struthers Knights of Columbus 4224, and a member of Struthers Gridiron Club and Struthers Lions Club.
