YOUNGSTOWN — One man was killed and another seriously wounded in separate shootings in the city Saturday.

Killed was Ramon Echevestre, 36, of Hillman Street, in a shooting that occurred at 1:20 p.m. at 654 Magnolia Ave.

According to city police, Echevestre’s death was the result of a domestic dispute that escalated. Witnesses said the suspect, a 32-year-old Buckeye Street man, was beating his girlfriend. Echevestre and his girlfriend, a sister of the woman being beaten, came to the Magnolia address to see what was going on.

Police said the victim and the suspect exchanged words and then got into a fight, which Echevestre won. Then the suspect, accompanied by his mother and sister, said he was leaving to get his gun and would be back. Later, the three returned, and the suspect began firing from a parking lot, and everybody ran.

Police said at least six children were at the scene during the shooting.

Echevestre ran into the house followed by the shooter, who caught him in the kitchen and shot him several times at the back door, where police found Echevestre lying in the doorway in a pool of blood.

If Echevestre’s death is ruled a homicide, it would be the 16th this year. At this time last year, there were 21 homicides in the city.

In a separate shooting incident, Lavonde Robinson, 17, of Wilbur Avenue, was shot in the face with a shotgun at about 12:44 p.m. Saturday.

According to police, Robinson, who was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment, was driving along Wilbur when he saw the shooter, another 17-year-old, sitting on the front steps of his home at 645 Wilbur. Robinson stopped and got out of his car, words were exchanged, and then he was shot.

When police arrived, Robinson was standing in front of the house where the shooting occurred holding a bloody towel to his face. His mother was with him.

Police found a fired 12-gauge shotgun shell on the steps of the home.

No arrests have been made or charges filed in the shootings. Police said they have not found the guns.
