Skiba’s 3 scores lead Mineral Ridge past LaBrae, 20-7
LEAVITTSBURG — Dan Skiba scored three touchdowns Friday to lead the Mineral Ridge High football team to a 20-7 victory over LaBrae.
Skiba scored on runs of 43, 25 and 2 yards and rushed for 122 yards in 13 carries as the Rams rallied from a 7-0 first-half deficit.
Andrew Sekela’s 1-yard TD plunge and Zack Herron’s placement put LaBrae (1-1) ahead in the first period.
But Skiba’s 43-yard dash and Mike Keleman’s first of two extra-point kicks pulled Mineral Ridge (1-1) into a 7-7 tie in the third quarter.
The Rams continued their rally with 13 points in the final period.
Matt Szarady rushed for 141 yards in 17 carries to lead LaBrae.
Western Reserve 42, W. Reserve Academy 0
BERLIN CENTER — Shane Ewing was involved in three touchdowns to power Western Reserve’s romp which kept the Blue Devils unbeaten at 2-0. Academy played its opener.
Ewing rushed for two touchdowns of 55 and 20 yards and accounted for 120 yards on the ground in 12 attempts.
Ewing also was effective through the air by completing 11 of 15 passes for 204 yards and one touchdown to Eric Kennahan covering 2 yards.
Kennahan had four receptions for 40 yards. Jeff Clegg returned a punt 88 yards for another score.
Crestview 54, Brookfield 13
COLUMBIANA — Adam Coppock scored on a 5-yard run and caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Adam Britton to get the Rebels (2-0) rolling.
The Rebels rushed for 258 yards while Britton passed for 159 yards. Britton also scored on a 37-yard run. Also with touchdowns were Jacob Danks, Carter Hill, Dakota Norris and Dillon Gorby.
Jeremy Quinlan and Ryan Mosora scored for the Warriors (0-2).
East Palestine 27, Field 24
EAST PALESTINE — Shane Peterson rushed for 191 yards and two TDs and threw for another 95 yards and two scores as the Bulldogs rallied from a 24-7 deficit.
Austin Cope caught both touchdown passes and finished with 87 yards receiving for the Bulldogs (2-0), who fell behind 24-7 with two minutes left in the second quarter.
Peterson’s first TD pass to Cope cut the deficit to 10 points at halftime and the Bulldogs scored TDs in the third and fourth quarters (the last with 4:18 left) to win.
Tuscarawas CC 28, Lowellville 7
LOWELLVILLE — Joe Lawless completed 20 of 32 passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns to Jordan Neidig, as Tuscarawas Central Catholic proved to be too much for Lowellville.
Lawless hit Neidig on TD throws of 38 and 5 yards while Nick Von Allan also scored twice on runs of 30 and 2 yards.
Lowellville’s lone points came in the second quarter on Tony Schialdone’s 2-yard run and Brian Schiraldi’s extra-point kick.
Schialdone led Lowellville’s attack with 75 yards rushing in 22 attempts.
Neidig caught eight passes for 132 yards while Von Allman rushed for 54 yards in six carries.
Southern 14, Lisbon 7
LISBON — Indians quarterback Adam Kelly rushed for a 5-yard touchdown with 5:35 remaining for the game-winning points.
Kelly’s 14-yard pass to Eric Baker in the second quarter put Southern (1-1) ahead, 7-0. The Blue Devils (0-2) tied the game when Jake Terry ran for an 88-yard touchdown.
Kelly rushed for 115 yards on 16 carries and passed for 83 yards by completing seven of 14 tosses.
Terry gained 119 yards for Lisbon on 10 carries.
Wellsville 15, Toronto 14
TORONTO — With 4:24 remaining, Toronto scored a short touchdown to pull within a point but the conversion kick failed.
After two consecutive safeties, an 8-yard touchdown pass put the Tigers (2-0) ahead 15-8 at the half.
