MATCHUPS 5 more good games

CANTON SOUTH-CANFIELD

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m. today at Cardinal Stadium, Canfield.

Scouting report: Canfield rallied nicely after a weather delay to dispatch Wooster, 24-21, on Friday-Saturday. The Wildcats opened their season on Thursday, losing to Dover 27-14. Still South is one of the favorites in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference and will present Canfield with some tough matchups.

EAST-FITCH

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m. today at Falcon Stadium, Austintown.

Scouting report: The Falcons looked unstoppable in a week 1 win over Chaney, but they’ll get a tougher test tonight from East. The Panthers have a serious postseason desire and while they struggled offensively at Liberty they have a defense that can keep them in every game.

NILES-LIBERTY

Kickoff: 7 p.m. today at Liberty.

Scouting report: The Red Dragons edged Cleveland John Adams 16-12 last week while Liberty topped East 17-6. This could be another low-scoring game, but Niles still needs to be able to move the ball better than it did in the opener.

UNITED-SALEM

Kickoff: 7 p.m. today at Reilly Stadium, Salem.

Scouting report: Plan on staying awhile for this game. Both teams are going to throw the ball — a lot — and score points — a lot. Unfortunately for both teams, they also gave up a lot of points last week. United lost to Minerva 44-27, giving up 26 second-half points, and Salem fell to Girard 42-34.

YOUNGSTOWN CHRISTIAN AT SPRINGFIELD

Kickoff: 7 p.m. today at Springfield.

Scouting report: Springfield gave a top-notch showing last week at McDonald. The Tigers lost 29-20, but they went into a tough place to play and stuck with a really good team right to the final whistle. YCS made a looooong trip to the Columbus area, falling to Grove City Christian 28-14. Tonight’s bus ride is a little shorter.
