Kent opens with 18-0 win

KENT — Uegene Jarvis ran for 141 yards and a touchdown to lead Kent State to an 18-0 win over Coastal Carolina on Thursday night.
Jarvis also returned five punts for 77 yards and caught three passes for 30 yards.
Tyshon Goode led the Golden Flames receivers with 84 yards on six catches.
The Golden Flashes held Coastal Carolina to 185 total yards and scored on two safeties. Cobrani Mixon led Kent State’s defensive effort with 12 tackles.
Kent State outgained Coastal Carolina 143-78 on the ground.
The Chanticleers were led by Zach MacDowall with 107 yards on 12 of 26 passing and Jeremy Height ran for 52 yards.
Bowling Green 31, Troy 14
BOWLING GREEN — Tyler Sheehan threw two touchdown passes to help Bowling Green defeat Troy.
Sheehan was 32 of 44 with one interception for the Falcons, and Freddie Barnes caught 15 passes for 157 yards and both of Sheehan’s touchdown passes.
The Falcons outgained the Trojans 394-293, helping new Bowling Green coach Dave Clawson notch a win in his debut.
Levi Brown was 28 of 42 passing with one touchdown and two interceptions for the Trojans, and Tebiarus Gill had eight catches for 102 yards.
Trailing 14-7 at halftime, Sheehan threw a touchdown to Barnes to tie the game with 3:49 left in the third quarter and Chris Bullock’s 1-yard rush put the Falcons up 24-14 with 7:19 to play.
Adrien Spencer’s 64-yard interception return sealed the game for Bowling Green with 2:14 left.
Villanova 27, Temple 24
PHILADELPHIA — Bill Cosby watched as Temple blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead.
Nick Yako kicked a 32-yard field goal with no time remaining after a John Dempsey interception of Temple quarterback Vaughn Charlton with 49 seconds remaining.
Villanova took over at the Temple 46 and drove to the 15 with three seconds remaining to set up the winning kick.
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and Cosby were among those at the game, dubbed the inaugural Mayors Cup between the two schools.
Chris Whitney completed 24 of 35 passes for 278 yards and threw two touchdown passes for the Wildcats. Villanova had dropped five straight against Division I teams.
