Fake improvised explosive device triggered bomb scare at Cedar Point
SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) — His attorney says a man accused in a bomb scare at an Ohio amusement park is an Iraq veteran who had a fake improvised explosive device he used for a talk.
Lawyer Bob Reno said Thursday that 27-year-old Kelly Albrecht of Cranberry Township, Pa., accidentally left the dummy IED on the ground July 17 while loading luggage into his Jeep in the Cedar Point parking lot.
The lawyer says the object resembled a coffee can. Still, police blocked off the parking area and a bomb squad destroyed the item.
Albrecht had been charged with inducing panic, but Sandusky Municipal Court officials say prosecutors reduced the charge to disorderly conduct Thursday and Albrecht pleaded no contest.
A sentencing date has not been set. Albrecht could get up to 30 days in jail.
