Fair is an important part of Valley’s culture, governor says
CANFIELD — Gov. Ted Strickland spoke at the ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the Canfield Fair on Thursday morning.
Strickland said the fair is such an important part of the culture in the Mahoning Valley because it teaches residents to share their history and livelihood.
He spoke about Ohio’s agricultural relevance in the United States.
“There are 76,000 farming families in Ohio,” Strickland said. “In hard economic times, they’ve helped us stimulate the local economy and provide jobs.”
He said Ohio is the 35th state in size but the eighth in the number of farms.
Strickland, along with fair board President James Evans and the rest of the fair board, cut the ribbon to open the fair.
