Mooney boys shut out JFK


WARREN — Senior Thomas Beck and junior Ryan Yavorski each scored two goals as Cardinal Mooney’s boys soccer team defeated Warren JFK, 8-0, on Wednesday.

Matt Ramsey, Robby Payne, Clay Hicks and Byron Abriggs each added one goal for the Cardinals (3-1). Beck also had four assists, while Cory Rhyal, Kyle Estephan and Eric Sklenar all added one. David Perry had two saves and George Cali one for Mooney.

Gary Bridgens had five saves and Marco Macali one for the Eagles (0-3).

East Palestine 1, South Range 0

EAST PALESTINE — Leo Bautista scored the only goal of the game on an assist from Austin Pence with 10 minutes left.

The Bulldogs (2-1) got 11 saves from Cody Stewart, while South Range goalie Isaac Schuster came up with 17 saves.

South Range 8, Jackson-Milton 0

NORTH LIMA — Jordan Baker had four goals, Andy Lacefield two and Justin Neimi and Andrew O’Leary one apiece for the Raiders (2-1) in a game on Tuesday.

Clay Proch had four assists, while Lacefield and Joe Beike each had two assists.

Girls

STRUTHERS — Brigid Trewella scored the only goal of the game about midway through the second half on an assist from Lindsey Parkins to give Mooney a 1-0 victory over Springfield at Valley Sports.

Mooney (3-1) goalie Rachael Letscher two saves.

Springfield is 1-2.

Niles 1, Hubbard 0

HUBBARD — Rachel Markowski’s goal decided the outcome of Tuesday’s game. JVs: Niles 0, Hubbard 0.

Volleyball

HOWLAND — Nia Grant had 17 kills, three blocks and four digs, Camille Cvengros had nine kills and six blocks and Sasha Mason had 26 assists to lead Howland over Canfield in five games. The scores were 25-12, 20-24, 21-25, 25-22, 18-16.

For Canfield, Kendal Malsch had 10 kills, Cara Cupler had 25 assists and one ace and Sabrina Mangapora had nine kills and three blocks.

Mooney 25-25-25, Chaney 21-22-14

YOUNGSTOWN — Dina Daltorio recorded 10 digs while Sierra Spotleson added 21 assists and Christine Pelini had seven digs and five aces for Mooney. Jess Gavin led Chaney with 10 assists, while Danielle Brooks had five kills.

Poland 3, Girard 2

POLAND — Amanda Molaskey had 31 assists, three kills, 12 digs and five points for Poland (1-1), which lost the first two games before rallying. Leanna Yeager added 12 kills, seven blocks and three aces and Emma Buzas had 13 digs, seven kills and nine points.

For Girard (2-2), Chelsea Guerrieri had 13 kills, eight points, four aces, 13 digs and one block. Morgan Walters had 23 assists, seven points, three aces and five digs and Bryanna Jay added nine kills and three digs.

Crestview 25-25-16-25, Warren JFK 21-22-25-15

COLUMBIANA — Shanelle Davner had 20 kills and six blocks, Chelsea Caudill had 11 kills, 14 points, four aces and 13 digs and Kara Taggert had 20 points, two aces, two kills and six digs for Columbiana (1-3).

For JFK, Kim Sylvester had 15 kills, 22 points and five aces, Kelsie Massacci had 30 digs and Madison Wilson and Angelene Coates each had 14 assists

Canton GlenOak 25-25-25, Fitch 15-15-15

AUSTINTOWN — GlenOak was led by Emily Mellie with 11 points, 12 kills and two blocks; Alyssa Greenwell with 15 digs and Maddy Cashner, 42 assists, in the Federal League match.

Leaders for Fitch (1-2, 0-2 FL) were Jessica Maslach with six kills, two blocks. two digs and one ace; Amanda Callahan with four digs, two service points and one ace, and Britnay Weidenthal, eight assists, two kills and as many blocks. JVs: GlenOak 25-20, 25-20.

Newton Falls 25-25, Campbell 15-15

CAMPBELL — Kaitlyn Gumina had 13 points and six aces, Kelly Casterline 16 points, Missy Chick seven assists and Destiny Prusky six kills to lead Newton Falls.

Campbell was led by Danielle Donofrio with 10 points and four aces and Taylor Ross with 10 points and seven digs.
