Vets say wounded Ohio police dog makes progress

COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio State University veterinarians say a wounded police dog is making progress and could make a full recovery.

Bosco was shot in the neck and the chest Aug. 22 while Officer Mike Schiele attempted to serve a warrant in Zanesville in eastern Ohio. Schiele was treated for his own wound at a hospital and then released.

The dog is being looked after by Ohio State veterinary technicians in Columbus, and they indicated Tuesday that they’re optimistic. The animal’s front legs are paralyzed, but he’s moving the back ones.

Zanesville police say they’ve received more than $5,000 in donations to help with Bosco’s care. They expect the bill for the first week alone to approach $10,000.

A suspect in the shooting has been charged with two counts of felonious assault.
