Tile giveaway begins at noon today, not 9 a.m.

Area residents looking for free tile lined up early this morning at the former site of the Wall Tile Co., 2432 Mahoning Ave., but they were met with a sign saying that the giveaway would not begin until noon.

A Vindicator story this morning incorrectly said that the tile giveaway would run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., but the giveaway actually begins at noon and ends at 6 p.m. today.

Cars lined the street outside the store, but the crowd slowly dispersed when people began to read a sign on the door correcting the hours.

“As long as nobody gets hurt. As long as they walk in like ladies and gentlemen, we’ll be alright,” said Dwayne Burnett, of Campbell.

But some of the tile-seekers are undeterred and plan to wait, cars parked at the entrance, for the doors to open.

“In this economy, I think everybody is looking for a good deal,” said Lisa Carnahan, of Boardman. “I’m just going to grab what I can.”
