Struthers defeats rival Campbell for first victory


STRUTHERS — Kaitlyn Opritza had six kills and seven aces to lead Struthers over Campbell Memorial in a high school volleyball match on Tuesday.

The scores were 25-17, 25-9, 25-11.

Martina Jurek added six kills and three aces, Tiera Cappitte had 12 aces, and Jascelynn Romeo four assists, three aces and one kill to lead Struthers (1-1, 1-0 AAC).

For Campbell (0-1, 0-1), Kourtney Opencar had two aces and one dig and Kristen Miranda had three aces.

Girard 25-25-25, Liberty 10-10-9

GIRARD — Chelsea Guerrieri had six kills and four aces, Lindsey Crown five kills and Alex Doran 16 points, seven aces and seven assists and Morgan Walters 13 assists, 12 points and eight aces to lead Girard (2-1, 1-0 AAC White). JVs: Girard 25-17, 25-12.

Lordstown 25-25-25, Bristol 7-7-10

LORDSTOWN — Heather Darosha paced the Red Devils (2-1, 1-0) with nine kills and 11 assists while Kaylie Luzadder tacked on six digs and 13 points.

For the Panthers, Kacey Jones had a kill and Amanda Prinkey had eight points with an ace.

Springfield 25-25-25, Columbiana 16-20-7

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Larissa Santangelo had six kills, eight blocks, eight points and an ace; Brooke Schrieber had 11 kills, three blocks, seven points and an ace; Emily Grdina had 11 points and Kallie Rogers had 28 assists for the Tigers (3-0, 1-0 ITCL).

Also for Springfield, Catherine Evan had four kills and eight blocks; Ashley Davis had nine kills, six points and 13 passes; Andria Lyons had seven points and 15 passes and Jessica Evan had three kills and four assists.

For Columbiana (0-1, 0-1), Kristi Couchenour had 10 kills, three blocks, five points and 11 passes, Hayley Goist had 16 digs and 11 passes, Sammi Hawkins had 14 digs and Marie Voitus had four points and 17 assists. JVs: Columbiana, 25-23, 17-25, 25-18.

Lakeview 25-25-25, Niles 13-14-11

CORTLAND — Chelsea Kelligher had seven aces and 12 digs, Ashley Austin seven kills and one block and Rebecca Calvin 14 assists and 10 digs to lead Lakeview (2-0, 1-0 AAC White). Niles is 0-1, 0-1.

United 25-25-25, South Range 23-15-19

HANOVERTON — Rachel Sell led the way with 29 assists for United, while Hillary Hoppel added nine kills and three aces and Ruth Prosko had five kills and six blocks. Patty Schuster had six kills and seven digs for South Range. JVs: United 25-17, 25-23.

Leetonia 25-25-25, Lowellville 19-17-14

LEETONIA — Lyndsey Simms led the way with 12 digs and Staci Medved added 10 as Leetonia improved to 2-1. Samantha Glasser finished with 13 points and nine assists, while Clarissa Perkins had seven blocks and seven kills. JVs: Leetonia 19-25, 25-23, 25-19.

Champion 25-25-25, Brookfield 10-23-8

BROOKFIELD — Jessica Nicholas had 11 kills and two blocks, Leah Nicholas two blocks, seven digs and 12 points and Megan Franty 20 assists to lead Champion. For Brookfield, Ashley Swezey had seven kills and 18 digs, Alexa Dobzi three kills and two blocks, Brooklynn Hansley three blocks, Amy Balakoff five points and Tori Thompson 15 assists. Brookfield is 0-3.

LaBrae 25-25-25-25, Newton Falls 11-20-27-12

LEAVITTSBURG — Olivia Wood had 15 points, six aces, three blocks and 14 digs and Courtney Aldridge 13 points, 13 kills and 11 digs to lead LaBrae (2-0, 1-0 AAC Blue). For Newton Falls (0-2, 0-1), Destiny Prusky had 11 kills and three blocks and, Missy Chic 10 assists and three aces. JVs: LaBrae 23-25, 25-7, 25-21.
