Scrappers lose 9-4 to Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — One night after clinching the Pinckney Division championship, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers lost to the Williamsport Crosscutters, 9-4, in a New York-Penn League game on Tuesday.

Argenis Martinez made his debut for the Scrappers at shortstop, getting two hits in five at-bats and driving in a run. He also scored once, but committed an error in the sixth inning that led to a Williamsport run.

Martinez’s RBI came on a squeeze play, driving in Juan Aponte.

Casey Frawley also had two hits and scored a run for the Scrappers (45-24), who scored twice in the first inning only to have Williamsport (39-32) match that in the bottom of the frame, then take the lead for good with three runs in the second inning.

Preston Guilmet (6-5) started and took the loss for the Scrappers. He allowed eight hits and five earned runs, despite striking out six and not walking a batter.

The Scrappers return home tonight for a doubleheader against the Jamestown Jammers, with the first pitch starting at 6:05 p.m.
