Drug charges
NEWTON FALLS — A 35-year-old Ophelia Avenue woman will be in Newton Falls Municipal Court today to answer to felony drug charges after the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force raided her home Monday.
Angela G. Petrella was taken to the Trumbull County Jail after the task force discovered suspected cocaine, suspected crack cocaine, plus marijuana, Oxycontin, other drugs, digital scales and other items in the home.
The raid followed a two-week investigation, TAG said. Trumbull County Children Services was contacted to come to the residence to assist with children in the home.
TAG is a major-crimes unit that focuses on drug traffickers, firearm traffickers, gangs and homeland security.
Man robbed twice
BOARDMAN — An 84-year-old township man says he was robbed at his home twice in three days by the same person.
The Washington Boulevard man told police that about 1:20 p.m. Monday, a friend came into his house and asked for money. When he said no, the woman held him down in his living room chair and stole $70 from his wallet.
The man also said the same woman committed the same act Saturday but that he didn’t report it because he didn’t think the woman would come back.
Loan for business
WARREN — Trumbull County commissioners are expected to approve a $120,000 low- interest loan today from the county’s Revolving Loan Fund for Berk Enterprises .
The company, 3869 Niles Road S.E., plans to use the money to upgrade a new facility on Thomas Road in Howland Township with sprinkler and fire-alarm systems required to bring it up to code.
The loan would be for 15 years at 4 percent interest.
Computers, TVs stolen
LIBERTY — Police were called to Rent A Center, 2719 Belmont Ave., about 8:28 a.m. Monday after the manager discovered a break-in. Someone had gained access by smashing blocks of the building at the southwest corner. Telephone lines and the alarm were disabled.
An undisclosed number of laptop computers and televisions were taken. The store had closed at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Preschool orientation
COLUMBIANA — J.L.C Preschool, located in Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 415 S. Main St., has planned orientation for new students Thursday and Friday. Classes begin Tuesday and next Wednesday.
J.L.C. Preschool will be participating in the Columbiana Street Fair Parade on Sept. 10, riding on wagons provided by Catalpa Grove Farm Market. Architecture for kids
YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Historical Center presents “History Kids,” with a Sept. 12 program, “An Architectural Adventure.” Students will tour both Wick Park and downtown Youngstown from 1 and 3 p.m. to study buildings, their famous occupants and style of architecture.
History Kids is for students ages 8 to 14. The cost of this program is $10 for Ohio Historical Society members and $12. for nonmembers. Advance registration is required. Contact Keith A. Mann at the Youngstown Historical Center at (330) 743-5934.
Walk for Water planned
CORTLAND — A Walk for Water starts at 9 a.m. Sept. 12 at the Cortland Conservation Club, 3931 McCleary Jacoby Road, to promote awareness and raise money for a water system for a village in Malawi, Africa. Registration is at 8 a.m.
The walk is sponsored by the Lakeview Outreach and Fellowship, which hopes to educate the public on the hardship that women and children experience in Malawi by having to carry water several miles every day.
Participants are asked to carry water, if possible, in recognition of the plight of the people of Malawi. A limited number of plastic jugs will be available, and participants are asked to bring their own.
Walks will be either 1 mile or 21‚Ñ2 miles.
