Zombies will be crawling downtown

YOUNGSTOWN — The first Zombie Crawl will be in downtown Youngstown on Friday night.

Participants can either show up dressed as zombies or meet at the Oak Hill Cemetery entrance between 5 and 6:30 p.m., where they can take self-guided tours to get into the spirit. Maps of the cemetery, courtesy of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, will be available.

Artists from the Oakland Center for the Arts will be on hand at the cemetery to put zombie makeup on participants for a $5 donation.

At 6:30 p.m., the zombies will gather at the west end of the Mahoning Avenue bridge (the red “Mister Peanut” bridge), and begin the slow zombie march through downtown at 6:45 p.m.

Downtown bars will offer Halloween drink specials all night.

A Halloween party will be from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the historical society’s Burt Building, 325 W. Federal St. (across from the bus station). Admission is $10. The party will include a cash bar, hors d’eouvres and a haunted atmosphere, with scary scenes throughout the building.

With the price of admission, partygoers will get a $5 discount to see “The Rocky Horror Show” at the Oakland, 220 W. Boardman St. on Friday night. Show times are 8 p.m. and midnight.

Those who go to the early show only need to show their ticket stub at the Burt Building party to get $5 off the price of admission. Those who want to go the late show can show their hand stamp from the party to get a $5 discount at the Oakland.
