Toledo cops kill pipe-wielding attacker

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Police in Ohio say a man suspected of stabbing his mother was shot and killed by officers when he reportedly attacked them with pipes.

Toledo Police Chief Mike Navarre tells WTVG-TV two officers were hospitalized today with injuries not considered life-threatening. He says one of the officers sustained a serious gash to the head.

Navarre says the officers were responding to a call from a woman who took the man’s mother to the hospital. Her condition is not known.

The chief says the man came after the officers swinging two or three long pipes while shielding himself with a trash can lid. Navarre says the suspect refused orders to put down the pipes, and he says one of the officers fired when a stun gun failed to stop the man.
