High-speed rail

YOUNGSTOWN — All Aboard Ohio and the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will host a grass-roots organizing meeting on the Cleveland-Youngstown-Pittsburgh high-speed rail corridor from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Youngstown Club in the Commerce Building, 201 E. Commerce St. Speakers will include state Rep. Bob Hagan of Youngstown, D-60th, chairman of the Ohio House Transportation Committee, and Ken Prendergast, executive director of All Aboard Ohio. J. Howard Harding from the National Association of Railroad Passengers will also participate.

Multiple shots fired

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are trying to determine who fired multiple gunshots from a moving car at a teenager.

The 18-year-old Plazaview Court woman told police she was walking in the 800 block of Plazaview on the East Side at about 5 p.m. Monday when someone in a silver Cadillac pointed a gun at her and fired an undetermined number of shots. The driver then continued driving down Plazaview.

The woman told police she knows the shooter only by a nickname.

Teen boys sought in attempted robbery

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are looking for a group of teen boys in the attempted armed robbery of a 57-year-old man walking on the South Side.

The man told police he was walking on Market Street near Avondale Avenue at 8 p.m. Monday when a group of four teens asked him for money. The man handed the group $2, but one boy pulled out a handgun and demanded more cash. The boys walked off after the man proved he had no more money.

The man told police the boy with the gun had assaulted him a few weeks ago.

Man shot while walking

YOUNGSTOWN — A city man is listed in stable condition at a local hospital where he was taken after being shot while walking on the city’s South Side. According to police, the 48-year-old Garfield Avenue man ran to a home on West Ravenwood Avenue just after 9 p.m. Monday, saying he was shot and asking for help. When police questioned the man, he said he had been walking down Market Street near Ravenwood when a young man shot him. Police said the wounded man had just been released from prison five days earlier, and there was the strong odor of an alcohol on him when the shooting took place. The man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Internet interruption

YOUNGSTOWN – Internet access and computer service will be unavailable throughout the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County from 4 p.m. to midnight Friday while technicians perform an upgrade. During this time, Internet resources will not be available inside the libraries or from outside the libraries on computers in homes, offices and mobile devices with Internet availability. This includes the Library’s Web site, computers with Internet access and e-mail. The Millennium catalog will not be available except at Main Library, where the server is housed. Search Ohio will not be available. Staff will still assist patrons in libraries that will be open on Friday: Main, Lake Milton, Newport and Poland.

Materials on the shelves still can be checked out.

Armed robbery in Niles

NILES — Police are investigating an armed robbery that involved two men wearing black Halloween-type masks at the McQuaid’s gas station, 501 state Route 46, at 12:47 a.m. Tuesday. One of the men also was wearing a black-and-white bandanna over his head, and both were wearing dark clothing, said Capt. Chuck Wilson of the Niles Police Department. The men, one of whom was carrying a handgun, took an undisclosed amount of money from the store’s register and fled, apparently on foot, Wilson said.
