Special to The Vindicator TRAVELERS: At the Oct. 5 meeting of the Rotary Club of Austintown, the speakers were from left, Jim and Dawn Tallman of Niles. Jim Tallman is a past district governor and now chairman of the district foundation grant program. The Tallmans traveled to India to see the results from funding of between $300,000 and $400,000 that District 6650 has sent there over the past six years. They visited a microfinance conference, which offers grants to women to start businesses and then sponsor others with profits. They took part in a Polio Day, in which 160 million children were immunized. They toured many Rotary water and solar cooking projects, a deaf school and Pardata Pardadi school for girls who can learn a trade to support themselves. At right is Brian Laraway, Austintown Rotary president, who presented a book in honor of the speakers to be donated to Woodside Elementary School Library.
